02Step-by-step recovery.

Step 1 — Load shedding before restart

If you can anticipate power restoration (PG&E provides estimated restoration time): walk through the house and turn off appliances at their switches or unplug them. Computers, sensitive electronics, TVs, audio equipment. Leave only essentials on (refrigerator, freezer). When power restores, fewer appliances try to restart simultaneously.

Step 2 — Isolate the trip cause

If power restores but trips immediately: turn off main breaker. Turn off all branch breakers. Turn main back on (should hold). Turn on branch breakers one at a time, waiting 30-60 seconds between each. The one that trips: that branch has either too much inrush load or a faulty appliance. Continue identifying with that branch off.

Step 3 — Test individual appliances
