Common questions.
How much faster is Level 2 vs Level 1?
Roughly 6-10× faster in real-world numbers. Level 1 adds 3-5 miles of range per hour; Level 2 at 40A adds 25-30 miles per hour, at 48A adds 30-40 miles per hour. The math: an 8-hour overnight on Level 1 = 24-40 miles added; same 8 hours on Level 2 = 200-320 miles added.
Can I just use the Level 1 cord that came with my EV?
Yes, for many use cases. Most EVs include a portable Level 1 charger that plugs into a standard 120V outlet. If your daily driving averages under 30 miles and you have 8+ hours of overnight charging time, Level 1 may be enough. We've installed Level 2 for many customers who initially planned on Level 1 — usually the convenience of full overnight replenishment plus weekend driving margin wins out within a few months.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for Level 1?
Technically no — Level 1 works from any standard 120V outlet. Practically yes — most electricians (us included) recommend a dedicated 120V/20A circuit for regular Level 1 EV use, because charging continuously for 8-10 hours stresses shared circuits, can cause nuisance breaker trips when other loads kick in, and creates heat at the outlet over time. A dedicated 120V circuit costs $400-$800 installed.
What if I'm not sure which level I need?
Start with realistic numbers: your average daily mileage, your typical overnight charging window, your weekend driving pattern. If daily miles are over 30-40 and you don't have 10+ hours of charging window, Level 2 is the answer. If under 30 miles/day with reliable overnight charging, Level 1 works. When in doubt: most Marin households end up on Level 2 within a year of EV ownership.
How do you handle pricing — flat fee or hourly?
Both, depending on scope. Routine service calls and predictable scope (panel replacement, EV charger install, transfer switch install, fixture replacement) are flat-fee quoted up front. Diagnostic visits and emergency scope are hourly because we don't know what we'll find. Either way, you get a written quote before work starts on anything significant, and we don't proceed beyond the quote without your sign-off.
How quickly can you schedule?
Depends on scope and season. Emergency dispatch: same-day across Marin County (1-3 hours business hours, 1-4 hours after-hours). Same-day standard service: 3-6 hours from call when capacity allows; otherwise next business day. Scheduled service work: 1-3 weeks typical. Larger projects requiring permits and PG&E coordination: 4-12 weeks depending on scope. We're upfront about timeline at the quote stage.
What warranty do you offer on work?
Our standard residential warranty: 2 years on labor, manufacturer warranty on parts (varies by product — typically 1-10 years). Major installs (panels, generators, EV chargers) often have longer manufacturer warranties (5-10 years). If there's an issue with our work in the warranty period, we come back and fix it at no cost. We also stand behind work past warranty — repeat customers and referrals matter more than a transactional fix.
Are you licensed and insured?

Bondable on projects requiring it. Happy to provide proof of insurance to clients or property managers on request. License lookup: cslb.ca.gov.
