01Title 24 lighting control requirements.

02Control system types.

Standalone fixture controls

Integrated sensor in each fixture (motion, daylight). No external network. Lowest cost. Limited monitoring and reporting. Adequate for simpler applications.

Networked 0-10V or DALI

Centralized control system networking all fixtures. Programming via central interface, scheduling, scene control, monitoring. Mid-cost. Common for medium-complex commercial.

Advanced networked (PoE, wireless)

PoE-powered or wireless-networked fixtures with cloud monitoring, granular dashboards, integration with building management. Higher cost. Used in larger or feature-heavy installations.

How are sensors calibrated?

Initial calibration at commissioning sets reasonable defaults; adjustment during first month of operation tunes to actual use patterns. Networked systems allow remote calibration; standalone require on-site adjustment per fixture or zone.

What if my warehouse has dark periods that need lighting on?

Override capability is standard. Manual override switches in each zone or area allow occupants to keep lights on when needed (security walks, night shifts, special operations). Override duration is configurable — typically 2 hours before automatic return to sensor control. Some systems allow scheduled overrides for known events. We discuss override needs during design phase.

Can controls integrate with my building management system?

Often yes. Modern networked lighting controls have BACnet, Modbus, or API integration with major building management systems (Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Schneider). Integration scope depends on BMS make and version. Cost varies; sometimes simple integration is included in controls scope, complex integration requires additional engineering. We discuss with BMS contractor during planning.

What about emergency lighting?

Emergency lighting is separately regulated and uses different circuits with backup power source (battery, generator, or central inverter). Standard occupancy sensors don't control emergency lighting — emergency fixtures stay on during emergency conditions regardless of sensor state. Modern integrated systems sometimes monitor emergency lighting status alongside normal lighting; useful for compliance documentation and troubleshooting. We address emergency lighting separately from normal lighting in scope.

How do you handle pricing — flat fee or hourly?

Both, depending on scope. Routine service calls and predictable scope (panel replacement, EV charger install, transfer switch install, fixture replacement) are flat-fee quoted up front.
