01What 'EV-ready' actually means.

Pre-installed conduit to charger location

Empty 1-inch EMT conduit run from main panel to where the EV charger will eventually mount. Includes pull string and end fittings. Costs $200-$600 during construction (vs $1,400+ for retrofit). When EV arrives, just pull the wire and add the charger.

Panel sized with EV margin

Main panel sized 25-30A larger than current needs to leave room for EV circuit addition. For typical Marin home: 200A panel with 40-50A current demand leaves ~60A margin for future EV. Some California energy codes now require this.

Reserved breaker slot

Pulling empty conduit through wall framing is straightforward DIY for an experienced renovator — basically running plastic pipe with a string in it. Sizing the panel and reserving breaker slots requires the electrician's involvement during panel work. Hybrid approach works: homeowner pulls conduit during framing stage, electrician installs panel with EV-ready capacity, future EV install completes the connection. Cleanest if all coordinated through your electrician up front.

How do you handle pricing — flat fee or hourly?

Both, depending on scope. Routine service calls and predictable scope (panel replacement, EV charger install, transfer switch install, fixture replacement) are flat-fee quoted up front. Diagnostic visits and emergency scope are hourly because we don't know what we'll find. Either way, you get a written quote before work starts on anything significant, and we don't proceed beyond the quote without your sign-off.

How quickly can you schedule?

Depends on scope and season. Emergency dispatch: same-day across Marin County (1-3 hours business hours, 1-4 hours after-hours). Same-day standard service: 3-6 hours from call when capacity allows; otherwise next business day. Scheduled service work: 1-3 weeks typical.
