Common questions.
How much can I actually save on my install through rebates?
For typical Marin Level 2 install ($2,400 cash cost): $720 federal tax credit (30% of $2,400) + $500-$1,500 PG&E/MCE rebates = $1,220-$2,220 in total incentives, depending on income qualification. Effective net cost after stacking: $180-$1,180 for a $2,400 install. Income-qualifying households see the better numbers; standard-income households get more modest but still meaningful stacking.
Do rebates apply to the EV charger hardware too, or just install?
Federal IRA tax credit covers both hardware and install labor. PG&E and MCE rebates also cover both. The 30% federal credit is calculated on total project cost including the charger unit and install labor. Panel upgrade costs are generally NOT covered unless directly required for the EV install (we document this when applicable).
How long does the rebate process take?
Federal tax credit: claimed on annual tax return, refunded with tax return (so depends on when you file and IRS processing time — typically 6-12 weeks after filing). PG&E EV Charge Network: pre-approval typically 2-4 weeks, payment 30-60 days after install verification. MCE Sync EV: application after install, payment typically 60-90 days from approval. We track applications and follow up with utilities as needed.
What if I'm not income-qualifying for the higher rebate tiers?
Standard-income households still get meaningful incentives: federal tax credit up to $1,000, PG&E standard tier rebate ($500), MCE standard rebate ($500-$800). Total stacked: $1,000-$2,300 for typical installs. Even at standard income, the rebate process is worth doing — covers 25-50% of install cost in most cases. Income-qualifying programs simply offer larger amounts on top of standard programs.
How do you handle pricing — flat fee or hourly?
Both, depending on scope. Routine service calls and predictable scope (panel replacement, EV charger install, transfer switch install, fixture replacement) are flat-fee quoted up front. Diagnostic visits and emergency scope are hourly because we don't know what we'll find. Either way, you get a written quote before work starts on anything significant, and we don't proceed beyond the quote without your sign-off.
How quickly can you schedule?
Depends on scope and season. Emergency dispatch: same-day across Marin County (1-3 hours business hours, 1-4 hours after-hours). Same-day standard service: 3-6 hours from call when capacity allows; otherwise next business day. Scheduled service work: 1-3 weeks typical. Larger projects requiring permits and PG&E coordination: 4-12 weeks depending on scope. We're upfront about timeline at the quote stage.
What warranty do you offer on work?
Our standard residential warranty: 2 years on labor, manufacturer warranty on parts (varies by product — typically 1-10 years). Major installs (panels, generators, EV chargers) often have longer manufacturer warranties (5-10 years). If there's an issue with our work in the warranty period, we come back and fix it at no cost. We also stand behind work past warranty — repeat customers and referrals matter more than a transactional fix.
