For major capital items (generators, panels, hardwired EV chargers), the question that matters most is whether replacement parts will be available a decade after install. Top-tier brands publish parts catalogs going back 20+ years; lower-tier brands may not support a model 5 years after launch.

05Buying through us vs supplying your own equipment.

For most products, we provide and install with full warranty coverage — both manufacturer warranty (on the product) and our labor warranty (on the install). For homeowners who prefer to provide their own equipment (often for EV chargers, sometimes for generators or specific lighting fixtures), we install supplied equipment with a slightly different warranty structure — our labor warranty applies to install workmanship, but the manufacturer warranty is the homeowner's responsibility to navigate if a product issue arises.

Either path works. The choice usually comes down to whether the homeowner has a strong product preference (Tesla Wall Connector, specific Lutron keypad finish, custom lighting fixture) versus wanting one accountable party for both product and install. Do you only install certain brands?

The recommendation isn't a brand-loyalty thing; it's based on what we've seen survive in Marin conditions over the past decade. Can I bring my own EV charger or generator?
Yes, for most products. EV chargers in particular are often homeowner-supplied — many homeowners get them at Tesla service centers, Costco, or directly from Amazon, then have us install.
